Karate Boogaloo is the side project of Melbourne soul favourites The Cactus Channel. As KB, they freely explore a unique interpretation of soul music.Their contribution to the split 7” Do You Even Know What A Passport Is is a prime example of their unapologetically wonky melodies, cinematic dramatism and jilted funk arrangments.

Surprise Chef’s offering ‘Where’s The Cream?’ is a heavy duty up-tempo track full of 70s deep funk sensibilities, with savage rhythmic guitar and harsh organ sitting atop a crusty drum break beat.

Two sides of oddball instrumental soul recorded in early 2018, straight to tape at Karate Boogaloo's Collingwood studio.

Do You Even Know What A Passport Is / Where’s The Cream was released in February 2019 on independent Melbourne label College Of Knowledge Records. Run by Melbourne musicians Lachlan Stuckey
and Jethro Curtin, the label seeks to champion underrepresented new music within the soul, funk and jazz realms.

This release was created on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. College Of Knowledge, Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo acknowledge these peoples as the custodians of the land on which we work. Sovereignty was never ceded.
